And Tango Makes Three – Peter Parnell & Justin Richardson (Authors) & Henry Cole (Illustrator) (2005

I love this book so much it makes my heart warm just thinking about it.

And Tango Makes Three is about two male penguins, Roy and Silo, who live at the Central Park Zoo in New York.

Roy and Silo spend all of their time together, they eat together, they swim together, they even take care of a rock as if it’s an egg and build a nest together.

The zookeepers decide to give Roy and Silo a real egg to take care of and the result is Tango the little penguin who completes this family.

The kicker, And Tango Makes Three is actually based on a true story, as if it wasn’t controversial enough.

I mean what is more threatening than two penguins raising a baby in a loving and nurturing way?

Well anything treats positively the controversial views of homosexuality, adoption, and mixed-family rights.

Well written, well crafted, and documenting the span of almost six years, this book documents the life of two beings in love.
